Recovery

One of the most demanding phases of recovery from an addiction is the phase where the person leaves the protected environment to practice new responses to old stimuli in the real world.

The client may have learned some new skills for thinking and reacting to situations that had been problematic in the past. With these skills, they can more easily strive to build quality into their lives. This phase sometimes requires a permanent commitment.

"Dear Helen,

This letter is written with much appreciation and gratitude for you.

As you know I have had several different issues ranging from drug addiction, childhood abuse, time on the streets, rape and just your day-to-day stress that life can bring. Your ability as a psychologist coupled with your compassion and dedication has taught me how to effectively begin to deal with my emotions.

I have tried to deal with these various emotions most of my adult life with little or no success. Since I have been in your professional care I have made great strides in many areas and have been able to bring closure to the trauma's I have experienced.

I thank you for your time and devotion in helping me overcome my emotional challenges.

Sincerely,
Mary P."
