Techniques

Following are some examples of techniques Helen incorporates into her practice:

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Discovered some 10 years ago by Francine Shapiro, EMDR is a highly efficient means to positive, lasting results. The technique can be used with clients aged 2 1/2 years to adult.

Although initially designed to overcome trauma, the technique has proven effective for many other desirable goals. During EMDR sessions, clients are often surprised at how quickly they achieve results. This motivates them to continue pursuing the level of change desired.

Hypnosis

This much talked about but frequently misunderstood technique has been a valued psychological tool for a great many years. Its numerous uses share a common denominator in that they are, essentially, planned journeys to work with the subconscious mind.

Together with her client, Helen creates a customized, relaxing journey that calls upon positive imagery and well-chosen words to plant the seeds of solution in the subconscious. There, it can work in the background, subtly helping clients reach their goals and make positive, lasting changes.

Psychodrama

Although the most demanding of Helen's techniques, psychodrama is also the most fun! Clients are directed to "concretize" their issues, whereby they are objectified (seen, felt, moved around, and heard). "Props" and role-playing are also used much like they are in dramatic plays. During the action, missing pieces of the client's "puzzle" are often found, helping answers fall into place rapidly.
